Fuel Water Separator
The oil-water separator is a device used to ensure that clean fuel is delivered to the engine. Correctly, the oil-water separator is a small filtering device used to remove water from the diesel before it reaches the sensitive parts of the engine.
Water and pollutants directly affect the service life and performance of diesel engines.
In addition to the abrasion effect on engine components and cylinder walls, water and pollutants can also replace diesel oil in lubricating coatings on high-precision fuel injector components, resulting in tolerance corrosion, surface pitting, fuel pressure loss and poor performance. Unfortunately, there is no way to completely prevent water from polluting fuel. Condensation is constantly forming in the fuel tank.
The first stage of the oil-water separator uses a pleated paper element to turn the water particles into large enough droplets, which will fall into the sump at the bottom of the filter under the action of gravity. The second stage is made of nylon treated with silicone and is used as a safety device to prevent small particles of water from entering the engine in the first stage.
In order to remove the water from the oil-water separator, the operator should regularly check the oil-water separator and open the valve to drain.
However, one oil-water separator can be used on small generator sets, while a maximum of three or more can be used on large generator sets.
If the separator fails, any water in the fuel will wear the lubricant on the diesel injector. When the device removes pollutants and solid materials, it helps prevent the engine from clogging. It can be seen that the oil-water separator is an important part of the fuel system.
